Travel itinerary
We will depart from Montevideo toward Mexico City International Airport.Upon arrival, we will transfer to the hotel and have the afternoon free to rest and acclimate. In the evening, we will enjoy a welcome dinner at a typical restaurant—flavors that introduce us to Mexican cuisine: moles, corn, and cacao in an ideal setting to begin savoring the trip.
Today we will explore the heart of the capital:the Zócalo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the National Palace to admire the murals of Diego Rivera and the Templo Mayor. In the afternoon, we will visit the National Museum of Anthropology, essential to understand the richness of Mesoamerican civilizations.
We will visit Teotihuacán,“the place where men become gods.” A guide will help us understand the history of this site as we walk through the Avenue of the Dead and the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. On the way back, we will visit the Basilica of Guadalupe, the epicenter of Mexican faith.
In the morning, we will take a traditional trajinera ride through the canals of Xochimilco,surrounded by music, flowers, and local flavors. Then we will continue to Coyoacána neighborhood of old mansions and bohemian cafés. We will visit the Blue House,home and refuge of Frida Kahlo. In the evening, we will leave Mexico City to fly to our next destination: Oaxacawhere we will stay.
We will begin the day with a guided walk through the Historic Center, visiting the Temple of Santo Domingo, pedestrian streets, and markets where chocolate, quesillo, and pan de yema fill the air.
In the afternoon, we will ascend to Monte Albán, the ancient Zapotec capital, with spectacular views of the Central Valleys. In the evening, we will have the chance to enjoy a traditional Oaxacan dinner—moles, tlayudas, and house mezcal.
We will take an excursion to Hierve el Agua,where the petrified waterfalls create one of the most unusual landscapes in the country. We will stop
in Mitla, a Zapotec archaeological site with intricate stone mosaics. We will visit a a mezcal palenque to learn about the production process,including a tasting. Return to Oaxaca.
In the morning, we will visit San Bartolo Coyotepec,famous for its black clay pottery, where we will learn about the process. We will continue to San Martín Tilcajete,birthplace of the colorful alebrijes, carved and painted with unique symbolism. We will meet local artisans and have time to appreciate their techniques. Free afternoon in Oaxaca.
Today we will leave Oaxaca and head toward Chiapas, where beautiful landscapes await us. After checking in, we will have some free time, with the option to visit the main square.
In the morning, we will depart for the Sumidero Canyon, where we will sail along the Grijalva River
between walls rising more than a thousand meters high. Birds, caves, waterfalls, and an overwhelming natural setting will make this an unforgettable day.
We will visit the archaeological site of Palenque,one of the jewels of the Maya world. Guided tour of the Temple of the Inscriptions, the Palace, and temples hidden in the jungle. Overnight in Palenque or Villahermosa, depending on the logistics of the next flight.
Transfer to the airport and flight to Mérida, the capital of Yucatán. In the afternoon, free walk along the elegant Paseo de Montejo.
Guided walk through Mérida’s Historic Center,visiting the cathedral, arcades, and French-style mansions. Visit to a henequen hacienda to learn the history of the “green gold.”. In the evening, dinner with a Yucatecan trova show, featuring serenades and traditional instruments.
Early departure to Chichén Itzá, where a certified guide will accompany us to learn about the Pyramid of Kukulkán, the Ball Court, and the Observatory. Afterwards, we will enjoy a refreshing swim in a turquoise cenote.. In the afternoon, transfer to Riviera Maya and lodging.
A day to enjoy the Caribbean Sea and the hotel’s amenities. Optional activities include an excursion to Tulum (seaside ruins) or Cobá (pyramids in the jungle).
We will have another day of leisure before beginning the return. There are many optional
activities available, such as snorkeling on reefs, visiting cenotes, or strolling along Playa del Carmen’s Fifth Avenue. Last night of the trip.
Private transfer to Cancún Airport to begin our return journey to Uruguay, arriving at Carrasco Airport according to the flight itinerary.
