Through the lands of Talampaya and Mendoza

Every journey has its own color, and this one’s color is undoubtedly the intense red of the earth beneath its feet. On this adventure through northern San Juan and La Rioja, we witnessed how nature can sculpt true works of art in the open air, and how history and geology intertwine to teach us a lesson in time, strength, and beauty.

From the towering walls of Talampaya National Park, which seem to touch the sky, to the secret canyons of Ischigualasto—the famous “Valley of the Moon”—we walked among whimsical shapes that seemed hand-sculpted, ancient fossils, and stories from ancient cultures. Every corner seemed to whisper something: the memory of the wind, dinosaur footprints, Diaguita myths.

But it wasn’t all desert and rock: we also encountered the warmth of the local people, with Mendoza’s wineries in full swing, flavors that surprised us, and nights under starry skies that will stay with us long after we return home.

Among so many landscapes, there were also moments of connection, of marveling together at being in those places, of enjoying the journey that was previously cut short (we had four passengers who couldn’t finish the trip in 2020 due to the pandemic!), of sharing birthdays on board, and of toasting, with laughter, to dreams that come true.

This trip connected us with something profound. It made us feel small in the face of immensity, but also part of a larger story. As always, the experience was shared, accompanied, and lived as a group. Because at El Kaminante we don’t just travel to destinations: we live them together.
